Hafner Wines

Hafner Wines

Listing Overview

Hafner is an old and well established Austrian wine making family. They make the delicate and distinctive wines traditional to that area. These include the unique late harvest, ice, and noble rot wines renowned for their natural sweetness. The Hafners present a truly remarkable selection of Kosher wines reflecting the entire range of their winemaking skills and methods.  The range of their kosher specialty wines, white and red, sweet and dry is quite impressive. Of course many of us will have ambivalent feelings about anything “Germanic”. Nevertheless, this winery is obviously proud of their kosher line and seems to provide a nice parnassah for some Hassidishe Yidden, along with taking care of the Religious needs of the local Jewish Communities. The Hafner Family even has some trees planted in their honor in Israel.  It appears that they sell over the net. According to the website most of their kosher wines are Mevushal and have not even been seen by a non-Jew, so they may be good for Hassidim who follow the stringency of Reiyah. The kashrut supervision is said to be by Kashrut Committee of Vienna and it appears to be excellent. The website displays this organization’s insignia. Nevertheless we still recommend contacting the winery or the kashrut supervision authority directly. You also need to be careful when ordering a kosher wine from their site, because their on-line catalogue is rather confusing, and not always have we been certain that we are still on the kosher page.
